Many thanks to those who attended this fruitful meeting. We will be including many of your helpful ideas into school development. The main areas covered on the evening were:
Self-evaluation
Our school improvement partner was pleased by our progress and we feel there has been considerable improvement in pupils’:
- Behaviour
- Healthy lifestyles
- Contribution to the wider community
We also believe that the school has moved from satisfactory to good in the following areas:
- The curriculum meeting pupils’ needs
- The effectiveness of care, guidance and support
- Effectiveness of the governing body
- Work with parents
Key Areas for Improvement
The school’s key areas issues for improvement are to:
- Improve consistency between subjects in order that practice in all subjects reaches the levels achieved
- by ‘good’ departments
- Develop the effectiveness of middle leaders to increase consistency
- Further improve upon the progress made in Maths and Science
- Ensure the improvements made in Key Stage 4 continue and spread into Key Stage 5
- Increase the proportion of good and outstanding lessons
- Improve ICT access and infrastructure
- Continue to develop independent learning and pupil participation and engagement.
The School Development Plan Embeds and Innovates! As well as continuing to press home the reforms we have made this year, our new development plan will also address the following issues:
- A new and more relevant home-school agreement
- Access to the school computer network from home
- A new style open day on Saturday 2nd October
- The development of “Verulam Standards” in all areas from lesson objectives to dress and presentation to encourage excellence
- Increased special needs/literacy provision
- More active and challenging KS5 teaching and learning
We will of course continue to strive to increase pupil participation and engagement and to improve the quality of teaching and learning.
